Roach Cemetery

Roach Cemetery
Cherokee County, Texas

Roach Cemetery is located south of Maydelle on a paved road, and south of old Java. A T.J. Roach came to Texas in 1840 and bought this land and planned to build his home on the site where the cemetery is located. The Civil War erupted and he went off to war, he returned to find that some of his family had died and were buried on his prospective home site. So, he built near here. He was postmaster for Pine Town for several years. He had five wives and it is said there were two sets of sisters in these wives. There are two slaves buried on the west side of this cemetery. Catalogued in 1971. Recatalogued Oct. 2002 by Martha Coates.
